The Pumpkin Patch

For the past few years we have always either gone to an actual pumpkin patch, or to a place that creates something similar to a real pumpkin patch, to get our pumpkins for Halloween.  We thought at first that we were going to have to get pumpkins from the store this year, but then I got an email about a playgroup our ward was having-at a pumpkin patch!!  A local outpatient rehabilitation center had pumpkins trucked in and they set up this really cute "patch" in front of one of the buildings.  I told Robbie about it, and since the girls have much more fun getting their pumpkins at a patch, we spent our family home evening the week before Halloween going to the patch and picking out pumpkins.

Gracie just kept looking around, saying that she would know the right pumpkin for her when she saw it.

Georgia just had a blast running around and looking at every single pumpkin (no joke), picking out one then deciding that another one further off looked better.  We went through that a couple of times.

Gwen had a very specific type of pumpkin in mind this year because she already had a very specific design for her pumpkin in mind.  She found one pretty quickly that she liked a lot...a nice oval shaped one.

The older three girlies sitting on one of the benches they had set up and decorated for the pumpkin patch.  Genni was sleeping in her car seat the whole time and we didn't want to wake her up.

It was a fun and exciting family home evening!!

2 Month Old Genesis

A few photos from when Genesis turned 2 months old in October, and her stats.  She was 9 pounds 5 ounces (in the 10%) and 22 inches long (in the 27%).  She's going to be a tiny baby just like Gwen (though Gwen was much smaller at 2 months than Genni is).  What a cutie she is!!

Can't help but love those sweet, adorable faces!!

Genesis' Blessing

We had Genni's blessing on October 14th.  Robbie's parents flew in on the 8th and stayed until the day after the blessing, and my parents flew in on the 12th and stayed until the Friday following the blessing.  It was wonderful having visitors again, and wonderful having them there for the blessing.  We were even more blessed that our good friends the Price's came with their girls, and Robbie's MTC companion Brett Gammons and his wife and daughter drove over from Dallas that morning to be there for us.

The blessing was absolutely beautiful and I am so grateful it was recorded and then typed up so that we not only have a copy for ourselves, but we can put a copy in Genesis' scrapbook for her to read as she gets older.  I have done this with the other girls blessings, and am glad that I get to do it with Genni's as well.

Funny thing-we all have girls-none of us have boys.  My mother in law took this cute photo of all the girls right after the blessing.  What a bunch of cute girls!!

Right after the blessing we went home and fed everyone because we knew our friends had long drives to get home.  The kids had a blast playing with each other, and even some of the adults got in on the fun.  It was a wonderful afternoon with wonderful people.  It was sad to see our friends go, but thankfully they are not so far away that we can't go visit them on a weekend.

My sweet little Genesis.  I love how gray her eyes are in this picture.  Her eyes are still like that, and I'm hoping they don't change.

I truly feel blessed to have such a sweet and happy baby, and to have yet another wonderful little girl.  Every day with these girls reminds me of how special they are, how much they are loved by our Heavenly Father, and how lucky and blessed I am that He deems me as a good enough woman that I can be their mother.  My heart is filled with joy, and as long as I have my wonderful husband and these sweet spirits, and the help and love of my Heavenly Father and my Savior, I don't need anything else.

The Abilene Zoo

We had Genni's blessing the Sunday after General Conference in October, and both my parents and Robbie's were able to come.  We thought that since they were both there the Saturday before, a fun thing to do with them would be to go to the Abilene Zoo.  It's not a very big zoo, but the girls love it, especially a few special things there.  Here are just a couple pictures from our visit there.

We took a picture of the girls next to the sign right inside the zoo.  They really wanted to ride the train you can see off to the right that goes all around the zoo, but we decided to walk instead.

In one of the animal houses they have a room with local birds in it.  Georgia was standing next to the railing and didn't even notice this bird was right behind her.  She was tickled when we showed her the bird.

Robbie loves Chameleons.  He spent a lot of time around them while on his mission in Madagascar.  He's even talked about getting one as a pet someday, and I don't think Georgia would mind that either.  After all, her favorite Disney princess has a pet chameleon named Pascal, so why shouldn't she have one too?

We saw this local turtle while walking along one of the pathways through the zoo.  We left him along though so he could continue on his journey.

One of the parts that Gracie really liked was the rattlesnake.  It was wide awake, and for some reason it was following her finger around, back and forth across the glass.  She thought it was super cool...some of us thought it was kind of creepy.

Gwen laughed hysterically when she saw this monkey sun bathing.  Every now and then you could see him peek an eye open and look around at what was going on, then go back to sleeping in the sun.

One of the girls favorite parts of the zoo is feeding the fish in the lake they have there.  The fish are so used to being fed that they all come up to the surface like this and fight for the little food pellets that people throw to them.  It's quite a sight to see.  Even the ducks and swans get in on it.  When we first took the girls to the zoo, we went with some friends from our ward, and they said that when they had first come to the zoo, the ducks were just walking on the backs of the fish to get the food pellets because there were so many fish on the surface of the water that there was no room for the ducks to swim.  It's a lot of fun to watch.

Their other favorite part is feeding the giraffes.  If you get to the zoo first thing in the morning, you can buy tokens that allow you to get special crackers from a cart that is on a bridge that spans the giraffe enclosure.  You can stick the crackers through the fence, and the two giraffes will use their tongue to grab them from your hand.

It's an interesting feeling having your hand licked by a giant giraffe tongue.  It's a lot of fun to feed them and get that close to something that you normally wouldn't get the chance to.

You really are quite close to them on the bridge, and if you drop your cracker onto the ledge on the other side of the fence, the giraffes use their tongues to drag it to the edge so they can eat it.

We always have fun at the zoo, and this time it made it even more special for the girls because they got to do it with their grandparents.  We always look forward to trips to the zoo!!

Yee-Haw!!!

I just love this girl for her imagination, creativity, and her joy for all the little things in life!!
